Sunday League

What is Sunday League?

Sunday League is a competition run by WBOPCA, catering for three age groups - Years 7/8, 9/10 and 11-13.

The clubs currently involved are Mount Maunganui CC, Otumoetai Cadets, Greerton Cricket Club and Geyser Cricket Club.

In its current format there are T20 rounds and finals pre-Christmas and a longer format competition after Christmas.

Sunday League is designed to address three key areas:

• give players opportunities to play cricket on a grass wicket where possible.
• create or maintain links with clubs as players move through the college years
• allow players to further develop their skills

How are the squads selected?

NOTE: For a player to play Sunday League they must also be in a Saturday team. Sunday League is not intended to be at the detriment of Saturday cricket in any way.  

Players are assigned to teams based on a number of factors including:

• current or previous club ties
• school
• location
• family ties
• travel considerations

In consultation with WBOPCA, the teams may also be moderated to try to ensure an even spread of talent and cricketing roles.
